The reason why men need to have a den: when the wife is watching a Japanese drama online on the iMac, and the kid is watching some kid show on the TV in the kitchen, then sets off one or two musical toys, a guy needs a place to retreat. Otherwise he might very well kick in and stomp every electrical and mechanical noise sources in the house, which could be an expensive proposition.

Unfortunately, my office is in such disarray that it doesn't offer much solace. If it were warm out, at least I could escape to the garage!
