Martha Stewart reported to minimum-security Alderson Federal Prison Camp -- dubbed "Camp Cupcake" by inmates -- in rural West Virginia to begin serving a five-month sentence for lying about a stock sale. Exchanging her clothes for prison-issue khaki trousers and black steel-toed boots, the 63-year-old millionaire was photographed, fingerprinted and strip-searched just like any other new inmate. Federal inmate No. 55170-054 will be eligible for jobs that pay 12 cents to 40 cents an hour, rising about 6 a.m. to work most of the day. "If an inmate has food-service background, obviously we will try to use that inmate in that area," a guard said. The prison has housed other celebrity inmates -- jazz singer Billie Holiday; the would-be assassin of president Gerald Ford, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme; and Kathryn Kelly, the wife of gangster "Machine Gun" Kelly.

Poor Martha. It's a crime she got nailed and many bigger offenders, like every high-up executive of every major corporation, who are male, get to walk free with their ill-gotten gains. Our legal system is a farce.
