Heading over to Amazon.com to send someone a gift—Amazon is one of the few online stores that lets you ship to non-billing addresses—an announcement from Jeff Bezos popped up regarding Amazon Prime. Apparently it's unlimited 2-day express shipping and $3.99 overnight shipping for a $79/year membership fee (introductory, of course). That pricing would be good enough for me to order from Amazon more often, as shipping costs and wait times are the primary issue. Bezos isn't kidding when he says that this is going to be expensive for Amazon, but if he can turn this loss leader into a profit, it won't just be a cool idea to the consumer!
